Squirrel Bait - Skag Heaven

Post Hardcore

Skag means heroin. I keep having weird dreams about this silver soup tureen filled with powder and there's always this weird feeling of propriety when I snort it because there's this little teeny tiny silver sugar spoon next to the soup tureen and I have to only use that instead of something easier. This has got to be the third dream about coke this month, someone send me something so I can dream about something else. Anyways, refer to previous post for teeny tiny description, send coke to me.

Squirrel Bait - Squirrel Bait

Squirrel Bait - Squirrel Bait

MCMAHAN, WALFORD. MORE ALBINI. What a perfectly sensational decade to live in Kentucky.
Ever wonder if David Pajo was the loner? I mean, he is playing for Interpol now. And everyone knows that Interpol is fucking lame and only fucking lame-o's listen to Interpol. And I mean, before Interpol he just did that Misfits cover under Pajo, though it was an ace album, just leaves me wondering if he's interesting or just a good guitarist. I don't know, who am I to pass judgement, I haven't even attempted to listen to the rest of his solo stuff. I'm lame. I should listen to Interpol. Nahh.
Anyways, Squirrel Bait, stuff you hear from the nineties before the nineties were invented. By fucking 17 year olds. Makes you feel fucking lazy, right?

Rooibos tea over wondering which chords to use to cover Sodom's Sepulchral Voice. Anyways, CONFLICT, Steve Ignorant of CRASS and now of CURRENT93. Guy likes to carve weird shit out of wood. Anyways, go buy a black ski mask and throw molotov cocktails at the riot police. Give yourself a cool name, it's easy. Just replace your last name with a word that either denotes that you're an optimistic anarcho punk or an angry and ironic punk. Then buy a really shitty electric guitar, learn about 3 or 4 power chords, slap a couple patches on your jean jacket and you're pretty much set.

WHERE DID THE INTEGRITY GO?

BATHORY, YES. This hangover is killing me. 6ATAN 6ATAN 6ATAN. The walls of my stomach must be coated 5 inches thick with scotch and Alley Kat. But that's okay because I AM ROSEMARY AND I BEAR THE SEED OF 6ATAN.

Christ, don't fling around 'Indie' like that, wikipedia, lest you join the masses in making the word 'indie' lose all it's actual meaning.

You know what's great about Elliott Smith? You'll never outgrow him. It's been a solid 6-7 years since I realized how great he is and about 5 years since I read his biography. He's the Kurt Cobain of much easier to listen to music and his guitar work is a lot more interesting. And there's ice cream involved.

Well, anyway. I'm going to work out this hangover.

Last of the Will Oldham library. Lord only knows how much depression might come with owning too many albums because you've unconsciously turned Oldham into another Devendra. BTW if you do end up doing that, you're a fucker. Anyways, just going to post up an Elliott Smith album for the sake of sentimentality.

More Will Oldham. I guess it'll be easier for people to know all of Will Oldham's different pseudonyms if I tagged all this with his name. But yes, Will Oldham and the members of Slint. Doesn't it make you feel like there's some clandestine pact of musicianship somewhere there mixed in with silent brotherhood, something that you'll never get to be a part of?

Nah, the tag's going to be the Palace Brothers. If you like Will Oldham, either you'll read the bit above or use the wonderful internet to read about him, eventually figuring out his 'monikers'.

Something about the Bb chord just really irks me. It might be just because I can't do a clean bar when my middle finger is busy elsewhere. Anyways, might be strange to have the EP and the studio album in your iTunes at once, but sometimes you're in an EP mood and other times you're in the full length album mood. The world is yours, do what you please.

Precursor to the Letting Go studio album. Strange Form of Life, great song, couldn't ask for anything better. My elder sibling just got the cutting eye-lid surgery, it looks a little disgusting, won't stop talking about how she's going to manage to teach tomorrow without people noticing, feeling a little ashamed to be related by blood.

Rudimentary Peni - Death Church

Rudimentary Peni - Death Church
1983, U.K.
Anarcho-Punk

Download

Great transition from ABBA's greatest hits to Death Church. There are moments in life where I wonder whether or not I ever liked crust and d-beat and anarcho-punk in the first place, but it's there. I just feel bad for the neighbors, I wonder how many hours of sleep I've robbed them. Oh wait, am I supposed to be considerate when I'm punk? (Har har har)

I'm thinking about punching someone in the fucking nuts while ABBA plays in the background. I want to take a drag from these shitty dollar ninety cent cigarettes and down a flask of scotch in a minute and just kick his fucking nuts until he starts convulsing violently and vomits his testicles out.

Big Black - Atomizer

Big Black - Atomizer

Noise Punk

Download

Noise punk noise punk, hey-o. More Steve Albini works. Need music to break shit to? A soundtrack to your alcohol fueled rampage at the near-by gas station? Need to keep beat to smashing your beer bottles to concrete? What else can you do with this album?
Things to do with this album playing in the background: Shave (remember to cut yourself on accident and let the blood dribble down and splatter on the sink), punch child sized holes in your drywall, dive from the top of a skate ramp onto a couple innocent bystanders, make molotov cocktails and throw them in the caves, drive a dirt bike across the abandoned chicken plant, fuck a boozed up sloppy girl in a dirty bathroom and cum on her face, scare your friends by whipping out a double edged razor and by slicing across your throat. Did I mention blowing up explosive fireworks inside of a industrial waste can on the beach at sunset?

Also, good music to pack your "get out of my hometown" bag.

Slint - Tweez

Tanker Low. Tweezer Fetish. Snatch Beast. Good album, not as good as Spiderland but worth it. Great subtle math rockage and asking Steve Albini for new headphones. Not as heavy as Spiderland, better for the walk back home trying to feel a little better about yourself after listening to Spiderland. (Is there something wrong with the future's gravitational pull?!) Download it, because everyone should have both of Slint's albums in their music library.

Ministry - With Sympathy

Ministry - With Sympathy
1983, Chicago
New Wave

Download

I prefer Ministry before they turned industrial, this album is just too good to pass up. You know that one scene where Pat Benatar does the dance off with the moustachioed pimp in the prosti-club? Instead of "Love is a Battlefield", replace the background with "Work For Love". That's what I wish I could live. Other than "Work For Love", other essential tracks include "I Wanted To Tell Her", "Effigy", "Here We Go", "Say That You're Sorry" and "She's Got A Cause". Get ready to dress in a dirty jean jacket with the collar popped with The Cure hair and nylon pants because you're just going to twist your hands and snap while you move violently from point A to point B. More Ministry to come.

Sleep is not quite as high on the list of priorities right now. I'm not listening to Polvo right now, I just downloaded this synthy-pop-wave album from Comic Hearse and it's pretty great. Chip-tunes-ing it when chip-tunes wasn't even coined as a genre. Anyways, Polvo, original 깡패's of math-rock? Is it possible to be an original 깡패 in anything? I secretly want to dress like a guy and lock myself in a cabin with 5 other guy with 2 guitars, 1 drum set, 1 bass, and some recording equipment. I'd very much like the 5 guys to be, if not carbon copies of; Steve Albini, David Pajo and Will Oldham. We can all sit in this cabin and drink every morning and night, make a beautiful album, walk in the desert and while we sober up we can stare at the night sky on a new moon kind of night. We'll make about 200 cassettes/vinyls (No compact discs allowed) and hand write the track list, slap a special song on the B-side and circulate them into the public for free. That can simmer in the dusty shelves of friends who will pass it on to friends who will pass it on to friends of friends and we can all hide away in obscurity. Then, in about 20 years, I want some pretentious fool who writes for MaximumRocknRoll (because MaxRnR will be jerks by then) to write a phenomenal review and just rip us away from individual projects and shove us in the limelight. We'll do some reunion shows reluctantly, but for the most part, we'll try to keep the recorded cassette/vinyl's integrity by refusing to formally reunite and record more studio albums.

One of my fantasies. First, I need to get out of this godforsaken country and move to California or something.

IT'S 90'S FOR THE REST OF THE DAY MAN. I remember when Chad showed me this album, I was 13 years old, wearing all this black shit listening to Elliott Smith every day, and all of a sudden it's fucking Narcolepsey Slide and Jumper and Semi-Charmed kinda life, that just opened the doors to Bush and Beck and Silver Chairs and Kings of Convenience and CHRIST THIS IS MY YOUTH MAN. It's not really during the 90's though...It was past the millennium. Either way, fuck you. It's my god damn day of nostalgia.

They do a cover of ZZTop's "Just Got Paid". I honestly prefer this version. ZZtop just sounds too clean and too manly. I can only imagine some kid straight out of a garage noise-punk band walking out to his rusty ford sedan from working a month at a car mechanic's bitch boy, covered in oil and grease, paycheck and tip money in his pocket going straight to the party down the other end of the neighborhood, cruisin' with windows down and this track blasting through the poor side of town. You know, the kind of childhood I would have had if I was born in the 70's.

Rapeman, Big Black, most of his collaborative recording work are with other artists I like/used-to-like/like-but-can't-seem-to-admit-it-out-loud. I walked home last night listening to the first track on repeat, it's really just that good. Whelp, classes are canceled today due to the torrential rainstorm so you get more than 2 albums to download! Hurray.

One more try at making a blog worth perusing.
Perry Leopold, what every hippie strives to be. Despite the cringe I experience when I hear anything related to Grateful Dead and self sustainable communes, this is still a great album. If Mark Lanegan's music was considered a human child, it would be the product of Perry Leopold and Johnny Cash. Personally, this marks the beginning of another period of self loathing and isolation. I've even made a playlist to help archive the songs that reflect it. Hopefully, the mix will end up being consistent and worthy of placing here. Not quite sure why I chose to begin this with this album, by no means does politics bear any influence over this self loathing. Perhaps it was the Angels of Light albums that triggered it, and perhaps this is just the follow up and I'm just listing this because the sound ably reflects the mood. Does that make me shallow?
